Lizard Man's Travels

This site is a journal of my travels and other adventures while I shift from doing postdoctoral research on tree frog ecology in Darwin, Australia, to research on digestive physiology of lizards and bats in Sede Boqer, Israel. Enough friends have been asking me for regular updates on this journey, that I thought this would be the best forum to keeep everyone up to date (including me).

Doh! Sorry to hear those snakes are giving you grief...but then again they do seem a heck of a lot cooler than those black caps =P

Yeah, pretty cool snakes. They rub their scales together to make a kind of hissing sound. Very interesting. Apparently the venom in these guys is pretty nasty too. It contains an anticoagulant that stays in the system for a couple of weeks. Apparently, if you get bit by one, they keep you in the hospital for observation for 3 weeks. I'm glad it just ate blackcaps.
